Thanksgiving Pre-Orders
🦃  🥧

This year we are so excited about the local pastured non gmo turkeys from First Fruit Sustainable Farms in Fallon, NV and the regeneratively raised (pastured) from Diestel Turkey Ranch in Sonora, CA.
Pastured Turkey Description from First Fruits Sustainable Farm (Fallon, NV):  "Our turkeys are the Broad Breasted Bronze Breed. They are currently on pasture that contains grasses and alfalfa. The pasture they are raised on is grown and planted by us using NON-GMO seeds and is NOT sprayed with any pesticides, herbicides, fungicides or fertilizers. Their supplemental feed is a 22% protein and certified NON-GMO from BAR ALE. it is wheat based and contains ground peas, sunflower meal, corn, and organic soy."
Regeneratively Raised Turkey Description from Diestel Turkey Ranch (Sonora, CA)
"If you want a turkey that helps to fight climate change, our newest and most impactful Regeneratively Raised Whole Turkey is the one you’ve been waiting for. Part of a holistic regenerative program, these birds graze on rotational plots of land that are treated to regular applications of our nutrient-dense compost and allowed rest periods of 2-8 months. We measure the regeneration of this soil to ensure the work we are doing is healing the soil, allowing it to trap carbon in the ground while removing it from the atmosphere, as well as hold more water and reduce erosion.
Just as important, these birds have a tender, juicy, full-bodied flavor that will impress the most discerning foodie. Wait, a turkey to please your foodie friends AND your environmentalist aunt… Did we just make this the best Thanksgiving yet? 😉"

Trying to feed several dietary types this year?  Make it one step easier by ordering your pumpkin pie from our co-op bakery.  We have a traditional pumpkin pie in an organic wheat crust, a traditional pumpkin pie in a gluten-free crust, a vegan pumpkin pie in an organic wheat crust, and a vegan pumpkin pie in a gluten-free crust.
All of our pies are made fresh and we use whole and organic ingredients.  Our vegan version is soy free, we use soaked organic cashews for the "creamy" factor.  This year we are using a mix of local pumpkins from Pioneer Farms (Fallon, NV) and Organic Pumpkins from Veritable Vegetable.

Food justice is a holistic and structural view of the food system that sees healthy food as a human right and addresses structural barriers to that right. At GBCFC, we hold food sovereignty at the center of food Justice. Food sovereignty is a food system in which the people who produce, distribute, and consume food also control the mechanisms and policies of food production and distribution. This stands in contrast to the present corporate food regime, in which corporations and market institutions control the global food system. Food sovereignty emphasizes local food economies, sustainable food availability, and centers on culturally appropriate foods and practices.
The higher cost of producing food in socially & environmentally regenerative ways, without help from government subsidies that support corporate agribusinesses, places wholesome, nutrient-dense foods out of reach for many in our community. Round Up for Food Justice aims to address this problem by supporting educational programs and organizations that are working to address food injustice.
Co-op shoppers have the option of rounding up to their change to the nearest dollar at the cash register after each purchase to make a donation to the program. This creates a pool of funds that is then distributed to individuals, organizations, agricultural start-ups, and others who are working to improve access to wholesome, nutritious food.
Those wanting to apply for Round Up For Food Justice funds please send an email to: info@greatbasinfood.coop and request the application. We will be accepting applications for the 2023 fiscal year from November 1, 2022 until November 30, 2022.
