Final Call For Thanksgiving Pre-Orders

🦃 🥧

This year we have several veggie-based Thanksgiving options along with Organic American Heirloom and Regeneratively Raised (Pastured) Turkeys from Diestel Family Ranch, link below.
Their Regeneratively Raised or Pastured birds are part of a holistic regenerative program, these birds graze on rotational plots of land that are treated to regular applications of their nutrient-dense compost and allowed rest periods of 2-8 months. Diestel measures the regeneration of this soil to ensure the work they are doing is healing the soil, allowing it to trap carbon in the ground while removing it from the atmosphere, as well as hold more water and reduce erosion. Just as important, these birds have a tender, juicy, full-bodied flavor that will impress the most discerning foodie. Pasture-raised turkeys are not only tastier, but they are also more nutritious. The result is meat that is higher in nutrients, including omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin E, and beta-carotene.
Did you know that Diestel Family Ranch is located just on the other side of Yosemite National Park?

Oh, and don't forget the pie - we bake all of our House Made pies from scratch using all local and organic ingredients 🧡 Huge thanks to our local pumpkin producers - Berri Baserri (Bordertown, NV), Avanzino Farms (Reno, NV), Sterling Farms (Smith Valley, NV), Pioneer Farms (Fallon, NV) and Juniper Valley Ranch (Minden, NV).
Pre-orders for turkeys, vegan alternatives and pies closes Thursday, November 16th at 5:00 pm.
🦃 Turkey and vegan alternative pick-up begins in the afternoon on Friday, November 17th and goes until Thursday, November 23rd at 3:00 pm (closing time).
🥧 Pie pick-up begins on Tuesday, November 21st and goes until Thursday, November 23rd at 3:00 pm (closing time).

Save the Harvest!
Adopt - A - Squash 🎃

Our Nevada farmers have had an incredibly bountiful winter squash season and we are happily helping them move this tremendous amount of food. Help save the harvest by ordering a 40-pound box of local winter squash for just $50!
The majority of the winter squash available this year are winter luxury pumpkins!  These pumpkins are a cheery, bright orange color, and have a distinctive netting covering the skin. They average 3-7 pounds each, making them the perfect size for one to two pies.
We also have smaller amounts of the following varieties and will include one or two other squash chosen at random for each box: Acorn Squash, Baby Bear Squash, Blue Hubbard Squash, Buttercup Squash, Butternut Squash, Delicata Squash, Futsu Squash, Honeynut Squash, Kabocha Squash, Spaghetti Squash, Sugar Pie Pumpkin, Winter Luxury Pie Pumpkin.

Love Your Farmer Dinner Recap

At Great Basin Community Food Co-op, we really love our farmers. Last month we were able to have our first LOVE YOUR FARMER dinner since the start of the pandemic. It was a lovely night filled with great food, music, dancing, meaningful conversations and tributes to our farmers that have left or are leaving the market.
On Saturday, October 14th, we said goodbye to a legend ❤️🧑‍🌾💔 A farmer who has fed Northern Nevadans for the last 60 years - Rick Lattin of Lattin Farms. We met Rick 18 years ago at the very first potluck held to start the Great Basin Community Food Co-op. After a lengthy conversation discussing the direction of food in America and how consumers are/were beginning to prefer organically grown, Rick did not hesitate to convert nearly 200+ acres of fruits and vegetables on his property to certified organic. He was also the very first farmer to join our Board of Directors. The love emanating from all of the 200 people in this room was palpable. Rick received a standing ovation and outpours of gratitude for forever changing the path of agriculture in our great state.  Happy Retirement Rick!

Foodshed Cafe Deck Construction Update

You may have noticed quite a mess in our parking lot these past few weeks. The good news is that we're almost done with the outside of the Foodshed Cafe deck project.  Our General Contractor, Ryan Shmyr of Ryco Construction, ensures us that they will be packed up by November 16th... the day before the Turkeys arrive and Thanksgiving shopping begins!  Ryco and his team have done a simply tremendous job and we couldn't be happier.  They are some of the most kind, accommodating, and fun folks we've had the pleasure of working with. They surprised us last week with their plans to attach their custom-made metal co-op logo to the deck 💚!!!
...and believe it or not, we are gaining a parking spot as opposed to losing any. 🚘 😱😍🚙
🌟 We are still aiming for a grand reopening on April 1, 2024 ⭐️

BRIDGE 33 FARM
(Reno, NV)

🥬 Please welcome reno's newest local producers, Bridge 33 Farm. These folks are farming on land near the Steamboat Ditch in South Reno, NV, and also off of Franktown Road in Washoe Valley. They are producing veggies galore! The crew consists of Claire Davis and Bodi Monroe and the vision they share is a beautiful one 🌈.  Bridge33 already has four hoop houses and plenty of direct sun space to grow produce in their untilled beds.  Being right on the edge of the Steamboat Ditch, they hit water at something crazy like 2 feet!  These farmers are coming in hot! 🌶️  They just delivered some jalapeno peppers to the produce and kitchen departments and they will also be delivering some of their "winter greens" in the coming weeks.
