Holy Kombucha - super refreshing, raw, organic 'buch! Koia - plant-based, low sugar protein drinks in flavors like Cinnamon Horchata. Sol-ti Organic Superades - just organic lemon, superfoods, reverse osmosis water, and a tiny bit of organic maple syrup.
Currently 20% off and brand new to the co-op is Mad Hippie Advanced Skin Care - yes we are mad about it! This line of "buck the cosmetic establishment" products is free from petrochemicals, GMOs, parabens, perfume, synthetic dyes, SLS, and silicone. It’s also cruelty free and vegan (except for a bit of beeswax in the SPF). Why is this important? Skin is the largest organ of the body, and the average woman absorbs 5 pounds of body care products [cosmetics, lotion, shampoo, etc] through this layer a year! The Mad Hippie line was designed as a full skin care system, with the products specially formulated to work together - of course they are great solo as well. Also, a Better Nutrition "best of natural beauty" award winner 3 years running!
Looking for “A2” milk? We have it!! Sand Hill Dairy from Fallon NV produces local A2 whole milk. We also have Organic A2 from St Benoit [and be on the lookout for Alexandre Farms A2 milk, half’n’half, cream, and yogurt arriving soon]. OK COOL, SO WHAT IS A2? First, it is a real thing - this is not a “portland milk advisory board” joke [though if cookie milk or octopus milk becomes available we will definitely consider it]. The protein in cow’s milk is made of about 80% casein, including two versions of beta-casein known as A1 and A2. Long ago, cows produced milk that only contained the A2 gene, but thanks to a mutation that may have occurred between 5,000 and 10,000 years ago, today’s milk is mostly A1. These proteins affect human bodies differently. Most notably, A1 produces BCM-7 when digested, which has been long associated with the symptoms relating to lactose intolerance. The A2 protein does not produce BCM-7, and has a structure more comparable to human breast milk [as well as goat, sheep, and buffalo milk]. In short, the absence of the A1 gene gives “A2” milk the “easier on your system” reputation, and in recent years, some dairy farmers have bred cows with the A2 gene. Look for the above logo to help you identify A2 in our dairy cooler.
Farm Tour Season Is Here!!
The co-op got a rain-soaked / hail-battered tour of Prema Farm in beautiful Long Valley last week. A few of us had been there in spring of 2017, and standing in those same spots in 2019, we were blown away by how much the farm has grown in that short time - both the plants and the infrastructure. We saw it back when the first hoop house was brand new. This structure is now surrounded by more fields of all kinds of things from greens to garlic. Several other hoop houses, a walk-in cooler, and a full post-harvest building have also sprung up since then. These folks have dialed in every process from the health of the soil to the time management of the staff, creating a thriving and promising business. Whats most exciting is that they are among a wave of younger small scale organic farmers [the average age of the American farmer is 58!] cropping up who have found creative new ways to persevere against the odds of our region's climate, doing so in the face long-held notions established by decades of large scale conventional agriculture. They are changing what we believe is possible with amazing produce and cordless drill-powered tillers. The transformation seen in the photos below are a beautiful reflection of how truly supporting local producers can revitalize our local food system. In 2 short years, Prema has become one of our biggest Local Organic producers [find their greens mixes and radishes in our produce dept right now].
With every local farm we visit, the future comes more into focus, and we can see this is just the beginning!

Nevada Pastured Chicken Subscriptions!!
Our food hub DROPP has kicked off its Local producer subscriptions. This is a really rad way to secure a weekly supply of staple items like milk, eggs, and bread from your favorite area producers. Kennedy Ranch chickens are on that list and are available in two sizes. These birds - a breed known as the Freedom Ranger - are raised on pasture in Lamoille Canyon.
Head over to the DROPP subscriptions page to sign up for weekly goods!
