25% off local grass-fed & finished Borda Ranch lamb, all cuts
*sale good through 1/31/22 or while supplies
The Borda Family has kept the Basque tradition of sheep herding alive in Northern Nevada for more than 100 years. Borda Land and Sheep is one of only a few large sheep ranchers still operating in Western Nevada and the only one of Basque heritage.
Borda Ranch lamb is grass-fed and finished. In the springtime, the Borda sheep can often be seen grazing the hillsides of the Sierra Nevada. Working with local, state, and federal agencies, more than 2,000 sheep and lambs graze thousands of acres of land around Carson City and nearby areas to reduce the fire risk.
Ted Borda
The Borda Family has kept the Basque tradition of sheep herding alive in Northern Nevada for more than 100 years. Raymond Borda left the old country in 1912 to herd sheep in the Dayton Valley and started his own sheep business and ranch there in 1921. After first working in other professions, Borda Land and Sheep is now run by third-generation family members Joyce Borda Gavin, Angie Borda Page and Ted Borda. Learn more about their operation here:
A lot of folks say that they don't like lamb...
People tell us this all of the time and then they try Nevada lamb and their tune changes. We really can't tell you why NV lamb is so much better but it is. We highly recommend the Borda lamb loin racks marinated in olive oil with LOTS of fresh garlic and rosemary. Or, pick up a Borda lamb roast and make some winter stew. We've got a great traditional Basque Recipe if you want it (just reply to this email)...and the internet has a bunch of good ones too. 👌😊

A letter from the Soulful Seeds Board of Directors
Dear GBCFC Member Owners,
The Soulful Seeds vision has always been to reduce food insecurity by providing the most vulnerable in the Northern Nevada area with fresh, healthy food. As our community is growing, the need to provide for those is growing as well. The year has ended, and we have the time to reflect on all we have accomplished this past year. None of these accomplishments would have been possible without the support of our donors and the Reno community.
We want to recognize the Food Coop and its member-owners for playing a major role in our getting where we are today. (). You were with us from the beginning and with your roundup contributions. Your 7th cooperative principle is (Concern For The Community: While focusing on member needs, Cooperatives work for the sustainable development of their communities through policies accepted by their members. Soul Seeds is forever grateful that you have and continue to support us. https://www.soulful-seeds.com
This past year, Soulful Seeds has: Delivered several hundred pounds of fresh vegetables to the Our Place campus for homeless women and families; worked with the women and men adjusting their lives through the Washoe County Crossroads programs (https://www.washoecounty.gov/hsa/adult_services/crossroads/womens_crossroads/index.php\) which is designed to assist women and men overcome personal life issues and return to being productive contributors to our community. We have partnered with the Reno Initiative for Shelter and Equality (http://www.renoinitiative.org) to establish a framework to provide basic gardening skills for the homeless population in northern Nevada. With the 2.6-acre garden, these homeless individuals will be able to work in the garden and learn how to grow healthy food and cook healthy meals with limited resources. In the process of supporting vulnerable populations, this is a unique project.
Utilizing CARES funding sponsored by the city of Reno, we were able to deliver over 20,000 pounds of organic fresh fruits and vegetables to the vulnerable in our community in 2020/2021. Products were provided to the Our place campus and to food pantries in Reno and Sparks. We purchased organic produce from:
• Great Basin Food Cooperative
• Fresh dairy from Sandhill Dairy,
• Fresh meat from Wolfpack Meats
• And more
As GBCFC members, you know the value of good healthy food. Many in the community do not have that opportunity. You have made the impossible, possible by your support of our work.
For the past 18 months, we have been working to obtain the 2.6 acre site on the Our Place campus. The process is not as quick as we would like but our time has also been affected by COVID-19. We have had the support of Washoe County, the city of Sparks and the State of Nevada to comply with all government policies and rules to make this happen. Additionally, we have been supported by local organizations and businesses through donated services to move this project forward. Our goal is to have seeds in the ground by spring, 2022.
Your donation will help us continue to grow and serve more of those in need. With your donation, we will be able to:
• Build the garden
• Obtain the necessary equipment
• Install electricity
• Build hoop houses to support year-round gardening
• Install irrigation infrastructure
• Obtain Necessary materials (soil, plants,
• And more
Soulful Seeds needs support now more than ever. As our operation grows, our expenses in establishing this unique community project will continue to grow as well especially in these early phases. We are seeking funding from the State of Nevada, Washoe County local businesses and individuals who have been with us from the beginning.
Your generosity will give us the ability to serve many people to make a difference in our community. Please consider making an online donation or visiting our website to learn more.
We will be providing ongoing updates with our monthly newsletter which you can subscribe to as well. Subscribe to our newsletter to stay informed on where we are in this long journey.
Sincerely,
The Soulful Seeds Board of Directors
