Regional Organic Citrus from Johansen Ranch (Orland, CA) has arrived!

We are so EXCITED to finally have a great source of regional citrus.🍊🍊🍊 Did you know that West Coast citrus season is happening right now? The sweetest and most nutritious citrus of the whole year is growing just on the other side of the Sierra Nevada mountains… in places like Chico, Orland, Oroville and all of the way down to Marysville, CA.
For over a decade, we worked with another organic citrus producer thanks to Gary Romano of Sierra Valley Farms who backhauled regional fruits each winter for us. Those citrus growers retired a couple of years ago and the co-op has not had access to that level of citrus flavor and quality until THIS season. Thanks to Quincy Natural Food Co-op, we were able to connect with Rich from Johansen Ranch.
Rich is very proud of his satsumas 🍊 and tells us that they are the healthiest of all other citruses - they have an abundance of calcium, vitamin c, and potassium....but most importantly they contain a potent natural source of synephrine - an antihistamine builder. He says that 4 to 6 oz of mandarin juice or 2-3 whole mandarins are equivalent to an OTC histamine pill, among many other benefits.
It's just the flavor for us... one of the sweetest/tartest/grandest taste bud explosions that you can have from fruit. Rich’s satsumas will be in stock at the co-op until the end of the year and then more coming from Wild River Fruit until the end of January. After that, the season is over till next year.

We are also making 8 oz bottles of organic regional mandarin juice until the satsumas run out!  Look for them in our housemade juice & smoothie fridge.
Sunshine in a glass 🌞🌞🌞
