Patronage Dividends & Upcoming Board Elections
Now that our co-op is enjoying the benefits of being completely DEBT FREE, our co-op board of directors has voted to return 25% of the 2021 profits back to members based on their patronage (purchases) at the co-op... the more you spent last year at the co-op, the more you will receive back. We are still working out some of the technical kinks in our POS system. We will be distributing these funds in the form of in-house food credit that you can use towards your future purchases at the co-op. We hope to have your patronage dividend funds on your accounts within the first couple of weeks of August. Please keep your eyes out for the official email that will be sent to all active qualifying members*.
This email will also contain details about the upcoming Board Elections**.

Local, raw honey helps with season allergies. The same allergens that trigger a reaction in you are present in local, raw honey. By ingesting the honey regularly, you are, in effect, taking “shots” of the allergen in small, manageable doses. The effect over time is similar to getting a whole series of allergy immunology injections.
Local, raw honey reduces the lifespan of colds. Eating just 2oz. per day can reduce a cold by up to two days!
Local, raw honey is a natural antiseptic. As mentioned above, honey has antimicrobial properties. That’s what makes it great for treating wounds. Because many types of bacteria can’t survive in honey, it speeds up healing, diminishes swelling, and gives tissue the opportunity to grow back more quickly.
Local, raw honey helps tame the stomach flu. Because raw honey calms the inflammation of the stomach, it is a great pain reliever for the stomach flu.

Churchill Butte Organics 🌺🌺
Saffron corms (bulbs for planting) have arrived at the co-op from Churchill Butte Organics located in Stagecoach, NV. Saffron is nicknamed the sunshine spice. This is not just due to its distinct color but also because it may help brighten your mood. In a review of five studies, saffron supplements were significantly more effective than placebos at treating symptoms of mild-to-moderate depression. Other studies found that taking 30 mg of saffron daily was just as effective as Fluoxetine, Imipramine, and Citalopram — conventional treatments for depression.
Saffron is a powerful antioxidant and contains an impressive variety of plant compounds. These act as antioxidants — molecules that protect your cells against free radicals and oxidative stress. The major player antioxidants in saffron are crocin, crocetin, safranal, and kaempferol...crocin and crocetin are carotenoid pigments responsible for saffron’s red color. Both compounds have antidepressant properties. Safranal gives saffron its distinct taste and aroma. Research shows that it may help improve your mood, memory, and learning ability, as well as protect your brain cells against oxidative stress. Lastly, kaempferol is found in saffron flower petals. This compound has been linked to health benefits, such as reduced inflammation, anti-cancer properties, and antidepressant activity.
Cooking with Saffron is probably one of the easiest ways to incorporate this healing spice into your diet...it's also tasty and visually pleasing :). The easiest way that we like to work this spice into our weekly meals is by adding it to our rice cooker when making a batch of rice. Use a mortar and pestle to grind down a few threads of saffron (about 1/4 tsp) and then add them to the warm water that you are using for cooking your rice. For example, if you are cooking 2 cups of rice in a rice cooker then you are going to be adding 4 cups of water. Just add your ground up saffron to that and voila, easy saffron rice that is rich in color, packed with antioxidants, floral, fragrant, and a mood lifter
BONUS: Your don't have to wait a year for your own saffron flowers and stems, we have the harvested stems from Churchill Butte Organics in little vials right by our registers!
Instructions for plating Saffron Corms: plant mid to late summer, pointed side up, 4-6 inches deep and 4-6 inches apart in rich soil in full to partial sun. Water, then let rest, keeping the soil barely moist. Crocus will sprout like grass in the fall, followed by blooming. Water sparingly until they bloom. After blooming let the greens grow all winter. Water if there is not enough rain or snow. Spring, when the tops dry, mulch well and leave alone till fall. NOTE: you might not have many flowers on the first go around but by your second season, you should have double or more.

The result is a smooth drinkable coffee that turns many folks into black coffee drinkers that never though it could be. It’s also what we use for our tasty cold brew!
Ascension is a full city roast coffee that has notes of chocolate and nut. It’s bold and smooth mouthfeel is easy to drink and lends its self well to every method of preparation.
Dawn Patrol is our Espresso blend that is sweet and smooth. It’s roasted a bit darker to bring out the sweetness within the coffee and an excellent option for both first time and experienced espresso drinkers. It yields a full and long lasting crema (the foam looking stuff at the top of the espresso made of the emulsified oils from the beans which contain the sweet aroma of coffee) that adds to the full experience of espresso. It’s also a popular option for coffee drinkers!
Bean and Nothingness is our decaf. It’s a Colombian AA coffee that is decaffeinated via Swiss Water Process. Its aroma matches its taste with an over arching fruit profile with a nutty finish. Lots of care was put into making Bean and Nothingness a very tasty option for decaf!
