ALMOST THERE!

Thanks to member contributions we are already beyond the halfway point of our annual Membership Drive. This means your co-op is ON PACE to achieve the $20,000 goal. If the membership's momentum keeps up, Reno's first Organic Salad Bar is right around the corner!!

In case you missed our last COOP SCOOP, here's a brief rundown on the Member Drive:
We are looking to expand our cafe offerings with an Organic Salad Bar! The GBCFC Board Of Directors [the fine folks elected by the membership] has approved this project if we can raise $20,000 in member equity by the end of October. While the full equity share for each member-owner is $200, any member can invest beyond that amount as Nevada does not limit the amount a co-op member can pay into equity.
Every dollar of equity generated puts us closer to a new Salad Bar that will feature Local and Organic seasonal ingredients - the very first of its kind in Reno, and something the membership has expressed great interest in seeing become a reality. One easy way to contribute is to just pay your yearly equity early. Each year during the drive, many member-owners choose to pay ahead on their annual membership. If your equity payment is scheduled every year in May, you may opt to pay this month to help the effort of the drive, meaning your next equity payment would not be due until October of next year.
We also are offering some extra special gifts this year...

All members who contribute $200 or more in equity will earn a free GBCFC branded Klean Kanteen 16oz coffee mug or 32oz bottle - a $50 retail value!! Remember, Nevada has no limit for equity investments so GO BIG!!
BRING YOUR FRIENDS!!
Have a friend, family member, coworker or neighbor who has never been to the co-op or might be interested in membership? October is the best month to sign up!! Let them know that $20 a year gets every member-owner the following:

--10% off one purchase every month

--$20 in quarterly department coupons

--10 to 15% off retail items through special orders

--ownership of a local grocery store that supports 100+ local & regional farmers, ranchers and producers

A few years back we crunched the numbers and found that the annual membership payment of $20 PAYS FOR ITSELF in discounts if a member spends an average of just $16.67 each month.

Hey! Its longtime member-owner Steve Romo holding our October member drive mailer. If you're a current member but don't receive our coupon-encrusted mailers, make sure to have your mailing address updated at any register - don't miss out on these membership perks any longer! Thats a $5 prepared foods coupon and a buy one get one half off coupon for our brand new line of breakfast sandwiches!! Scroll down for more information on those incredible items.

ITS APPLE SEASON!!
Roll through our produce department and check out new varieties coming in every week. Right now we have some of the crispiest Organic Honeycrisps ever, as well as Organic Philo Golds, Grannysmiths, Fujis and Galas. Also find a bunch of BIODYNAMIC [a "beyond organic" method of growing] Spitzenbergs, Jonathans, and Cinnamon Spices! Keep em peeled, this is just the start of this years imminent apple wave!

REGIONAL ORGANIC DECORATIVE CORN STALKS
Deck your halls with Regional Organic Corn Stalks from Jamason Farms!! These decorative favorites were grown by Dennis Jamason, the same soil-meister who brings us your favorite Organic Garlic Powder, Organic Garlic and Baby Bear Pumpkins. Its pretty special to find decorative crops that were grown without any pesticides or genetic modification - it's rarely the case, especially in the flower industry. Even though you're not going to eat these, you can rest assured when they eventually return to the soil you will be doing the earth a favor instead of further harm. Find them on our front walkway and in our store, while supplies last!

Dennis and this years crop of Baby Bears. Our bakery is processing these now, look for all kinds of pumpkin-flavored seasonal goodness in the bake cases!

An image from a Jamason Farms visit a few years ago. Sunsets, certified organic soil, middle of nowhere Nevada... does it get much better?

AN UPDATE FROM SOULFUL SEEDS:
YOUR ROUND UP DOLLARS AT WORK!!
Did you know Washoe County is in the process of renovating portions of the The Northern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services Campus (NNAHMS) to increase housing and services to homeless women, children, and families? One of our rockstar founders, Dee Schafer-Whitten went before the Washoe County Commissioners earlier this month to share our proposal to put a 1.75 acre farm on the campus to serve the folks that will be housed there. This rendering, produced and donated by Stonegate Developers, shows the fully installed farm. In addition to providing fresh healthy food, this neighborhood garden program will teach people how to grow, harvest, and prepare food (genuine farm-to-table living). In addition to healthy food, the mental health benefits of gardening and working together as a community offer a multifaceted approach to rehabilitation.
While there are still approvals to get and lots of funds to be raised, the supportive and enthusiastic response we received from the Washoe County Commissioners to our proposal was really exciting. If you'd like to show your support, please contact your commissioner and ask them to continue supporting the Soulful Seeds NNAHMS Neighborhood Garden Project.
