After 16 Years We Are Completely Out Of Debt!!
This past week was a HUGELY important one for our co-op. We mailed off the very last repayment for the member loans that we borrowed to move into our location at 240 Court St. almost 10 years ago.
$720,000 was the cumulative debt borrowed from co-op member-owners. We used these funds to build out, purchase equipment, inventory and furnishings at our Court street location. As of October 1, 2021 we have paid back every single penny with interest (besides the few angels who donated their loans - THANK YOU ALL AGAIN!) 🥳🥳🥳
We have come a very long way since our days of the kitchen buying club and the $814 that this whole project started with back in 2005.
We could not have done this without the support of our dear member-owners, our incredible local farmers and ranchers, and of course our dynamic staff and board of directors!!!
Over the last 16 years, our Dad would often say to us at the end of long weeks and long months that we were “trading blood”. Now I get what he meant. ❤️
In the days of corporate giants and the complexity of modern food systems, we are one of very few “young” food co-ops that were able to survive and grow in this market without large scale commercial capital. Reno, you did it. You supported the state of Nevada’s only community-owned food cooperative to the point of financial stability!

Garrett Menghini
"I believe one of our most impactful daily decisions is where and how we spend our money. Every dollar spent is a vote for the values we support, and the future we want to be a part of. Short of growing my own food and buying directly from farmers, the co-op is the only place where it feels right to spend my food dollars. With every purchase I'm supporting a world where food is local, clean, and produced in a fair way. I can think of few things more important than that.
As a former engineer at SpaceX, former local small-business owner of Down To Earth Composting, and current local farmer, I have a pragmatic brain, passionate heart, and agricultural experience to add to the board. Beyond my dollars, I'll bring time, energy, and expertise, to help make more clean and local produce available to you at co-op, further supporting the values and vision that we share."

Doug Avanzino, Reno NV
This is Doug Avanzino [and his dog Wolf]. He’s a rancher and a farmer who supplies the co-op with grass fed and finished local beef. He’s also the reason we have huge beautiful white and orange pumpkins 🎃 every year in October.
Doug’s property is one of the last of its size within Reno city limits. His refusal to sell to developers and the like is just one of the reasons that Doug will always be a hero in our book. He also works harder (by himself) than any person we’ve ever met. He’s a champion of Local and Independently Owned Food Systems…some of the key necessities on the path towards health and freedom. 🌟
Thank you Doug 🙏🏽🥰
