The Foodshed Cafe Is Closed For Now... Is Our Food Co-op Next?
Many of you probably read about the closure of the Foodshed Cafe on social media or in our last E-Letter... if not, here is the link to that E-Letter.
Our minds were blown by the way this RENO COMMUNITY turned up for us!Ā Hundreds of emails, comments, letters, and ideas poured in. (side note - we will get back to everyone asap, right now it's restructuring and holiday time!)Ā Just when our darkest hour came, the mighty light of our people reminded us that we will navigate these treacherous times safely.Ā Why is this screen so blurry right now??!!Ā š š
Since then, we've been working hard to restructure our team and labor so the co-op doesn't meet the same fate. This is the longest and most impactful time we've ever seen the major road (Arlington) that goes by the co-op closed for repairs. Street closures can be fatal to smaller, local businesses. We're holding strong and doing our best, but we could use extra support until the new Arlington Bridge is ready!
We've also recentlyĀ opened up a companion non-profit, Friends of the Foodshed, to accept charitable donations to help us continue our advocacy work and keep Nevada's only independent grocery store running. Friends of the Foodshed is a 501(c)(3) that has been preserving the work of Farmers and Ranchers in Northern Nevada and connected watersheds for over 20 years. We are dedicated to providing education about health and environmental issues and to promoting a healthy lifestyle for all living things.
Washoe isn't just a desert; it's a food desert. The life-giving waters of Pyramid, Walker, and Tahoe are precious and deserve to be used sustainably and responsibly. If we don't support local producers who protect the aquifers while growing and raising nutritious food, we'll lose the very people who keep us safe. Every donation counts! Click HERE or the button below to donate. All Contributions $250 or more will receive a tax-deductible receipt letter from Grassroots Educational Forum, our parent 501(c)(3).

Local Ginger & Turmeric Season Has Begun!
Over a decade ago, Custom Gardens (Ray & Virginia Johnson) figured out how to create a microclimate for Hawaiian ginger and fresh turmeric in Silver Springs, Nevada!Ā When they first told us about their plans, we were skeptical, but each year they produce bountiful crops with unparalleled quality. In the past few years, Holley Family Farms (Dayton, NV) has also started growing this local organic ginger, achieving the same flavor success.Ā If you've never bought a "finger" or a "knob" of either local ginger or turmeric, it's time to try some in your next juice or dish!Ā We will have crops from both farms in stock over the next couple of weeks or until they sell out! šāāļø š«Ā

Heart and Soil is an organ-based supplement line created by Dr. Paul Saladino. Ā Founded on the idea that organ meats are the most nutrient-rich foods available, and based on ancestral wisdom, each supplement is formulated with a specific blend of dried organs to support various conditions and health goals. Ā Heart and Soil sources all organ meats from grass-fed, grass-finished animals raised on regenerative farms dedicated to improving the health of the ecosystem in the United States and New Zealand.
While muscle meat is a good source of protein and contains many nutrients, to truly obtain all the nutrients needed to thrive, organs like liver, bone marrow, spleen, heart, kidneys, thymus, and testicles are crucial. Ā Unlike our ancestors, it can be challenging to incorporate these organs into our diets regularly, so the dried and capsule forms can be a more approachable way for many to obtain the benefits of these nutrients.
The concept behind glandular supplements (those made of glandular extracts and organs) is that ālike supports like,ā and in addition to providing essential nutrients, consuming these components supports the corresponding human glands.
This exclusive line is available only at select retailers (YOURS TRULY š )Ā and directly from the Heart and Soil website. Ā We now have the following products in store:
Beef Organ ā touted as natureās multivitamin, provides foundational support for overall health, vitality, and energy.
Grass-Fed Colostrum ā natureās āfirst milkā, supports gut health, immune system function, and exercise recovery.
