New LOCAL Wine, Easter Goodies, & Spring Events!

Drumroll please ...

Our annual seedling sale is just around the corner! Set to be held Saturday, May 18th, this outdoor community event is a must-see. Stop by or stay awhile, as we'll be right outside the front of the co-op on Court Street from 7:30am to noon. What better way to celebrate the season by prepping and tending your spring garden? We'll have a wide variety of plants, all grown locally. Come early if you want the best fruit/veggie/herb selection - these babies go fast.

Not a plant person? You can also stop by the seedling sale to connect with other community members, visit one of the other local producer booths, find out more about DROPP, or grab a bite from our Foodshed cafe upstairs inside the co-op. We're launching a few new prepared foods, and we've got coffee! Attending (whether it's to snag the best tomato plant or try a CBD shake) is just one more way you can support and expand our local food scene. We hope to see you there!

we are HOPPY to report...

Easter goodies and buddies are here! Finger puppets, beeswax egg candles, natural egg dyes, vegan and milk chocolates, and libations galore!
And speaking of libations... we are stoked to now be offering  LOCAL wine from Basin and Range in Minden, NV...

Basin and Range is a micro-production winery, sourcing all of its fruit from a single vineyard- a 9.3 acre site in Minden, Nevada. This is the highest elevation commercial vineyard in the U.S. They use sustainable farming to cultivate French-American hybrid grape varietals that are uniquely suited for this site. Well-drained granite soils, arid climate, and abundant sunshine form the perfect terroir to produce these small lots of rustic unfiltered wines that are truly unrivaled quality in these funky varietals. This all happens right in our own backyard! Read more about these LOCAL producers on their website.
Basin and Range wines are on sale now through the end of April!

Ten Years of Edible Reno-Tahoe

Congratulations to Edible Reno-Tahoe on 10 years of publication! We are so lucky to have this crew of dedicated foodies and journalists working hard to promote local food in our area. In editor Amanda Burden's own words: "This is a mission-based magazine, and we wholeheartedly believe we can make a change in locals' health by pointing people to nutritious choices. We also seek to help build and support a thriving agricultural, culinary, and drinks culture, which happens to benefit the local economy." Don't miss this issue - it's stuffed with awesome locally-focused articles covering CSAs, DIY gardening, finding sustainable seafood in town, environmentally-conscious landscaping, and the next generation of farmers. The "Local Food Thrives" piece highlights the last decade of the Reno area food scene's evolution and continued prosperity. We especially appreciate the feature on organic eating and the true cost of food - well written and informative pieces like this are essential to changing perceptions in the market and [as we like to say] 'turning the dial' of a broken food system - some serious food for thought in this issue. Thank you Edible Reno Tahoe, and here's to the next 10 years of delicious, beautiful, local food! Instagrammers can follow . View the whole issue on your favorite screen: ediblerenotahoe.com/editorial/spring-2019 ...and if yer one of those tactile page flippin' types, you can find physical print copies of this magazine in our store and around town.

Teen Rebels Reject Junk Food

We thought this story was too interesting, promising and radical not to share. A new study shows that teenage boys picked healthier food options when these choices were framed as rebellious. Man, just think of all those things they coulda taught us in school! The above advertisements were "vandalized" by the students as an exercise in the study. From a design perspective, its wild that the center image could almost pass as an actual soda ad with one of those "sneaky" anti-marketing angles. Rebels of all ages can read more HERE.
Thanks again, New Food Economy!
