Reducing single-use plastics can help cut down on microplastics in our food and watersheds. Please read below and give us your feedback 🤗
Now that we are hopefully fully on the other side of the pandemic, we have shifted our attention back to reducing our inhouse plastic packaging. Some of you may remember several years back when our co-op kitchen tried to offer our salads and bowls in glass containers? You may also remember that the experiment didn’t go so well and our food waste increased exponentially. We learned a lot from this experiment and have recently revisited the conversation of moving back towards more glass and less plastic ♻️ 🌎
Thanks to a lot of great feedback on social media, we will be creating a sticker for each of our house made purchases that come in reusable glass jars. We will also put together an educational brochure on the subject of single use plastics and microplastics for our members and shoppers.
Would you be interested in purchasing more of our grab n go kitchen case items and our pre packaged bulk items in glass containers? Items like salads, bowls, reheat meals, sauces, etc. Please send us your feedback. Our board of directors is having their annual retreat on 6/25/2022 with plans to finalize our next 5 year strategic plan. Your thoughts, ideas, motivations and suggestions are very helpful to this plan.
Glass Bottle Deposits are now $1.50
-
Due to inflation and the rising cost of fuel, our glass bottle prices will increase from $1.00 to $1.50 beginning on June 1, 2022. We held out for as long as we could and we shouldered nearly $8,000 of glass bottle costs (that we did not recover) over the past 2 years. Our hope was that bottle costs were only high due to pandemic labor shortages. In the past 5 months, these costs have only continued to increase, which means that we need to change our deposit amount in order to break even.
-
If you bring back your “well rinsed” glass bottles you will receive a $1.50 credit back on all of the house-made items that you purchase in glass bottles. This includes our juices and smoothies, No City Coffee bottled cold brew, puddings, desserts, soups…and hopefully more items in the coming months.
