So long as one feeds on the food from unhealthy soil, the spirit will lack the stamina to free itself from the prison of the body.     ~Rudolf Steiner

Come check out this awesome composting workshop hosted by the new Patagonia outlet on Center Street. The presenters include Reno Rot Riders, who take all our compost here at the coop (that's a lotta juice bar pulp!) and distribute it as beautiful soil throughout Reno, Verdant Connections, who manage our edible landscape, and Full Circle Compost. (You can buy their amazing compost mixes right outside our front door!) Composting is increasingly important in a world where a third of the food we grow is wasted, and most of that ends up decomposing anaerobically in landfills, creating potent methane gases that contribute to climate change. Contrast that with Paul Hawken's Project Drawdown, an amazing and hopeful climate change research project. They calculated that widespread adoption of composting systems can reduce CO2 emissions by 2.3 BILLION tons by 2050!

New Juice Bar Hours!
Grab a custom drink from our juice bar 8am-4pm weekdays and 10am-4pm weekends. Otherwise enjoy our fridge packed full of all the favorites! One of the Juicers will be operating in our secret underground lair in order to provide you with a steady flow of delicious juice. Shorter hours but so much more juice! Starting Monday 9/4.

We have succulents! Cacti and Succulents differ from many other species because of their ability to survive drought and other harsh climates and conditions. These special plants have the ability to store nourishing ingredients in their stems, roots and leaves. That is why the word "succulent" in latin is "succos" meaning juice. Find them at the register for $4.99 each and start your own mini-desert garden!

Today is the last day to vote for the 2018 GBCFC Board of Directors!

To vote for your favorite nominee, come into the store any time today and ask for a ballot at either register. Only primary account holders who are up to date on their membership are eligible to vote. Thank you for participating in small scale local democracy that directly affects the people of Northern Nevada!

Our friends Nick and Christine of Bee Here Now Farm
Organic farmers have to fight a constant uphill battle against regulations, misperceptions, and a corporate agricultural system of free university research and government subsidies designed to promote cheap conventional farming. Christine Rosakranse of  writes a brilliant piece for the RGJ describing the myths and meanings behind organic farming:

Food justice means more than well-grown food, it means food grown by healthy people making livable wages. Too often cheap food is subsidized by the well-being of the people that grow and pick it. Thanks to the UFW (United Farm Workers) and other advocacy groups, we have the power to change that.

Atlantic Salmon Accidentally Released into Pacific Ocean off the Coast of Washington

Farmed fish in coastal pens escape to decimate the local ecosystem. This is one of many reasons why we are against industrial farmed meat, whether that's land or ocean based.
