Local Apricots Have Arrived! đŸ€©Â đŸ€€

(Cherry Dog Orchard. Fallon, NV)

NEVADA STONE FRUIT SEASON IS IN FULL SWING 🎉 - Karen and Louis at Cherry Dog Orchard in Fallon, NV have brought their amazing apricots into the co-op!
These apricots are harvested at peak ripeness, so they are ready to eat right away. They will only be around for 2-3 weeks. So don't miss out!

CITY GREENS GARDEN
(Reno, NV)

If you've shopped the coop over the last few years you probably saw Craig Frezzette in the produce department. And if you ever wondered why he maybe looks a bit too comfy among the veggies it's because the dude is a farmer!
Yep, Craig has been growing his own organic produce in the heart of Reno since 2010. City Greens Garden started as a neighborhood CSA and quickly expanded into supplying local restaurants with herbs, veggies, and greens once word of his pristine quality got around. He regularly supplied to the late great 4th St Bistro and continues to bring beautiful local harvests to other establishments like La Strada at the Eldorado.
Craig seems to have perfected about as many different crops as can be grown in this region. We are always stoked when our own delivers... and even more so after working with Craig and seeing what a perfectionist he is!
Stay tuned to see his full farm bio visit video next month, we are finally getting caught up with all of the farmers who joined us in the pandemic era.  Lots to talk (and laugh) about  đŸŒˆđŸ©”

Increasing summer temps lead to an increase in the body's demand for water for many of us.  Peeing ten times a day or having clear urine is not necessarily a sign of adequate hydration and could, in fact, be flushing minerals from your body.  In order to actually absorb the water you drink, electrolytes need to be present.  What are electrolytes?  Electrolytes are minerals that become capable of conducting electricity when dissolved in water.  They are responsible for controlling the absorption of water into your cells and tissues, they serve as necessary cofactors to conduct enzymatic reactions, and they help to maintain proper pH balance in the body.  Electrolytes found in the body include sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium, chloride, phosphate, and bicarbonate.

Some filtration systems (mainly reverse osmosis) remove electrolytes from water, so it becomes necessary to add minerals back into your water to replace what is lost.  Some ways to do that include: Trace mineral drops, unrefined sea salt (just add a pinch to your glass of water), and popular electrolyte drink mixes (but beware of these, as many of them have large amounts of added sugars).
Fun Fact: Our bodies are able to make water by enzymatically binding hydrogen and oxygen together.  Additionally, minerals must be sourced from diet and water is traditionally a good source of minerals.  So sometimes the urge to drink water is actually propelled by the body’s desire for minerals rather than for water itself.

Last month we told y'all that we were breaking ground on the cafe in July. Right after that announcement we found out about one more snag at the City.  We just set a new break ground goal date with our general contractor yesterday and we are keeping our fingers crossed for Tuesday, August 22nd!
We are still looking for member loans from members.  If you are interested in loaning the co-op money at 3% interest please let us know!
