Great Basin Grindhouse

Reno boasts many fantastic local coffee roasters. Our Grindhouse event gives them their chance to shine.
Grindhouse features rapid-fire coffee workshops by your local roasters, time to sip coffee 'til your heart's content, and a chance to ask the experts about your favorite cup of joe.
All members save 10% on Sunday -- and we want to extend this to our Grindhouse guests as well! Non-members can bring this flyer and receive 10% discount on everything!
February 22nd 11am - 12:30pm

After the presentation, you'll be able to impress your friends with your new coffee knowledge...
Why look for sustainable products?
Alpen Sierra will be discussing coffee certifications, specifically the state of global coffee and sustainable certifications. These certifications include Organic, Fair Trade, Rainforest Alliance, Utz, and others.
What is 'seed to cup'? Mark from the Hub will be focused on their direct relationships with farmers and how we go about sourcing and why it is important to our company and how it benefits the farmer. Just like people know about farm to plate, we want to talk about seed to cup.
How can I optimize the flavor of my coffee? Matt from Magpie Roasters will focus on the coffee flavor wheel. The wheel was developed to describe the types of flavors in coffee, like a pie chart. It explains what we can find in coffee, also a bit about how the growing process affects flavor.
What are some international coffee rituals? Tim from Woodfire Roasters brings his experience of different coffee rituals from around the world. He'll also share his own personal coffee ritual and how to develop a personal ritual centered around coffee for personal enjoyment and sharing in a social environment.

Here's what the Reno Gazette-Journal is saying about the event:

"Reno has not isolated itself from caffeine frenzy. Coffee houses, roasters and bean retailers are open in nearly every neighborhood. Coffee lovers can learn more about their beverage of choice from 11 a.m. to noon, Feb. 22 when the Great Basin Community Food Coop presents the Great Basin Grindhouse Workshops and Tastings."
