Wine for Everyone!
“Wine is Sunlight, Held Together by Water” - Galileo
Join us at Great Basin Food Co-op as we launch a six week wine tasting series designed to remove the intimidation factor surrounding wine, debunk wine myths and drink great wines with great people. This series of tastings will provide a great foundation for the wine curious while also giving the wine knowledgeable an edge for the next dinner party. Taught by GBCFC's new sommelier, Nicole Madden and Amy Boyer of Encore Beverage.
Each 90 minute session will focus on a fun and informative tasting of 6 different wines arranged around a central theme that progresses from one session to the next. We explore a different topic each week, comparing and contrasting wines in a fun and relaxed atmosphere, building our knowledge as we taste and discuss! Ready to become a true Sipster?
Session 1: Hear the story the wine is telling! Is swirling only for show? Can your nose smell the beauty? Does the wine make you sing its praises or grumble about its price?
Session 2: What do you really taste? Acid or Tannin, Fruit or Sugar, Butter or Oak, Is your palate up for the challenge?
Session 3: How is your Vino-Vocabulary? Taste and describe the wine like you made it!
Session 4: What’s Cool, What’s Hot? Cool vs. Warm climate wines. Taste the weather in wine.
Session 5: Rise of the Working Class Wines. They may not be noble, but they can be great!
Session 6: Blind Man’s Bluff. Can you guess the bottle in the bag?
DATES: Sessions begin Monday July 13th and take place each Monday until August 10th.
TIME: 5:30 pm – 7:00pm
WHERE: Garden Pavilion 250 Court St. Reno, NV 89501...Across the street from the co-op.

CLOSING EARLY AT 6:00pm SATURDAY JULY 11th!
We are finally resetting our awkward register situation and hopefully taking the "Sorrys, excuse me, coming through", and "Can I get by" statements out with the sawdust.
In addition to separating the two registers for more streamlined checking out we are adding a third lane at our new juice & smoothie bar! Yep, the small corner next to the stairs is becoming a juice and smoothie cart where we hope to put to use as many local veggies and glass mason jars as possible.
Prepared Foods Grab n Go section is moving by the Beer & Wine and both sections are expanding! Our wine section has a new steward...her name is Nicole Madden and she is a professional sommelier who has recently returned to Reno from the bay. Be sure to check out the Wine series "Wine For Everyone" as she is the woman behind those glasses.
Days of the basement dungeon times have ended as we have begun the move up to the light! Our initial upstairs office work begins Saturday night as well. We are converting palettes into desks and dividers with plant walls separating each unit so that we can all think and breathe easy. Once the transition is complete we will have community seating space available for use out on our front patio.
