Announcing upcoming workshops at GBCFC
Shape-Note Singing Workshop
November 5, 5-7pm
Shape-note singing is a living American folk tradition practiced for over two centuries; it is a community event where people come together to sing for pleasure. Though originally kept alive in the rural South for generations, nowadays communities across the States still sing this style of music.
In this introductory workshop, we will sing from The Sacred Harp, a tunebook in continuous publication since 1844. The music is written in a cappella four-part harmony; the singing is raw, exuberant, & loud. There is no musical experience required; the basics of reading shape-note music will be taught. Come participate!
There is no cost for this workshop.
