Mary McCallum is the owner and lead herbalist behind Sierra Roots Wellness. Mary’s passion for the natural world started from a young age amongst the oak trees and the pines of the Sierras. She was led to become a practitioner and started her journey deeper into the field of plant medicine 9 years ago. After years of struggling with chronic disease in her early teens and 20’s, she was led to begin her work as a Vitalist practitioner. She found herself wanting to heal herself, wanting to support her body deeper and more fully and was called back to nature. Through her reconnection to the earth and its magical beings, she found herself in a place of tremendous growth. Her journey of growth has inspired her to share her passion for cultivating health and vitality through the healing power of nature with all people.

She attended the National University of Natural Medicine, where she received a degree in Integrative Health. She also completed training and advanced education in the areas of pelvic health, flower essences, nutrition, Gastrointestinal (Gut) health, qi gong and sustainable and ethical wild harvesting. She also attended the Acorn School of Medical Herbalism where she was fortunate to learn from Heather Luna and Paul Bergner under the foundations of Western Medical Herbalism and Vitalism. Today Mary continues to study herbalism through mentorship led by Ember Peters of Wild Current Herbs and Scott Kloos of the School of Forest Medicine.

She practices here in the Sierras as a clinical herbalist and vitalist practitioner, where much of her work is dedicated to connecting with the land and making medicine for the people. Mary is dedicated to only using organic small farmed or ethically and intentionally wildcrafted herbs for her clients and products. She also enjoys teaching classes here locally in the Sierras, and working in her clinical practice with clients one on one for wellness consultations.
